If you embarrassed about your teeth, you may find yourself frowning more than smiling. Still, there’s hope: you can improve your smile by following these simple tips.

Visit the Dentist

One of the best things you can do for your smile is to visit the dentist at least twice a year. Visiting the dentist will allow them to examine the health of your teeth and gums. If you have gum disease, it must be caught and monitored from an early stage to prevent it from getting worse and causing your teeth to fall out. When you visit the dentist, expect to get your teeth and gums cleaned thoroughly. The dentist will take x-rays of the teeth to inspect for cavities. Catching decay early on will prevent serious problems that can lead to root canals and other oral health issues.

Limit Acidic Foods

To improve the health of your smile, limit the amount of acidic food you eat and drink. You need to watch for beverages that stain the teeth. Soda and coffee are two drinks that can lead to stained teeth. Foods high in sugar can cause your teeth to decay, and people who consume them too often can get some form of gum disease.

Change Your Toothbrush

Another way to improve your smile is to change your toothbrush every other month. This will help to limit the amount of bacteria that grows on the brush, making your mouth healthier. If you are unable to remove the bacteria, plaque will form on your teeth, and lead to the deterioration of the enamel of your teeth. Brush your teeth at least twice a day for at least two minutes. Use toothpaste with fluoride to reverse tooth decay and gum disease in their early stages.

Floss

Not only should your brush your teeth twice a day, you need to plan on flossing your teeth daily as well. Flossing is one of the best ways to remove bacteria from the mouth. Flossing between the teeth will loosen bacteria, decreasing your risk of tooth decay and gum disease. When you floss, gently insert the floss between the teeth to remove the bacteria found here. Do not cause the gums to bleed when you are flossing. Simply loosen the bacteria found here to prevent gum disease and tooth decay. Daily flossing not only helps to improve problems with gum disease, but can also improve your heart health and other health conditions.

Clean Your Tongue

If you don’t already, start brushing your tongue. Brushing your tongue will reduce the amount of bacteria in your mouth. Use a tongue scrapper to help remove the amount of bacteria in your mouth. Cleaning the tongue daily will also make your breath better.
